Client: River Lawn, Barcombe Mills

Matthews (Sussex) Ltd undertook this small project in Barcombe Mills as part of a flood alleviation scheme.

Our Client’s property had been severely flooded on numerous occasions and so it was decided to create a bunded landscape feature using clean inert soils to prevent further flooding to the property.

“Matthews have excelled with the work they have carried out on the critical flood defences and groundworks, in the hamlet of Barcombe Mills.

Matthews were able to use their extensive knowledge to provide a clear, realistic and pragmatic programme involving significant preparation, earth moving and landscaping.

They began clearing the site almost immediately following liaisons with the Environment Agency, completing the necessary paperwork, records and compliance for this sensitive Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

They have done exactly what they have said they would do from the outset, and as problems have been encountered they have dealt with these quickly, proactively and professionally, even when there have been issues beyond their control.

Sophie who has been managing the site is one of the most competent, professional and communicative of managers we have had the pleasure of dealing with. She has kept us informed at every key stage and her responses are honest, efficient, and refreshingly, this appears to be the way that Matthews like to do business.
